The Digitization Index (DiGiX) assesses the infrastructure, the level of adoption, and the institutional and market conditions that allow a country or region to take full advantage of information and communication technologies. It includes 17 Spanish regions and 99 countries, with comparable information available for 2019.

The economy of the Basque Country grew 3.1% in 2017; GDP growth is expected to keep its rate at 3.1% in 2018 and slow down to 2.8% in 2019. This will add around 30,000 new jobs in the period and average unemployment shall drop to 8.8%. Creating more and better jobs remains as the main challenge.

Cities are the engine of economic and social development. In Spain, cities account for 60% of the population and employment, as well as 70% of GDP. However, in addition to benefits, the urban phenomenon generates some costs which increase in line with the size of the city.

The economy of the Basque Country will grow 2.4% in 2016 and 2.5% in 2017, creating 37,000 new jobs during this two-year period. Internal demand drives the recovery, while exports of goods fail to show a firm trend , in a more uncertain context. Creating more and better employment remains as a challenge.

Las economías vasca y guipuzcoana aceleran su ritmo de crecimiento impulsadas por factores internos y externos. El País Vasco podría crecer un 2,7% en 2015 y un 3% en 2016. En Gipuzkoa, las exportaciones, la industria y el empleo evolucionan algo mejor que la media vasca. A largo plazo, la tasa de actividad constituye un claro reto.

The Basque Country has returned to growth in 2014 after contracting severely in 2013 (-1.9%). The BBVA Research scenario foresees 1.1% growth in 2014 and an acceleration to 1.8% in 2015. The context is one of recovery in domestic demand and improved performance in external markets, based on the acceleration of global growth to rates close to 1.8% in 2015.
