Tensions in financial markets will impinge on Euro Area activity. But there is substantial uncertainty about what the impact will be. Although very negative scenarios cannot be ruled out, supporting factors to growth should limit the downside risks. In the course of 2008, as headline inflation moderates, the ECB will be bound to cut interest rates.
