In Brazil and to a lesser extent Chile, inflation accelerates more than expected
Summary
Despite the context of subdued domestic demand, inflation in annual terms in Brazil was the highest since October 2011. The inflation data in Chile is consistent with the option of either a 25bp cut or a pause the MPR at October’s meeting; we consider that the board will opt for the pause option and maintain the accommodative bias.
