Unemployment Rate Drops to 5.9% in September

Summary

The unemployment rate continues to surprise us all, falling at a faster-than-expected rate and dropping below 6.0% in September for the first time since July 2008. As has been the case throughout most of the recovery thus far, this rapid decline in unemployment was influenced by a simultaneous decline in the participation rate to 62.7%
